Metallica is an American metal band formed in 1981 in Los Angeles. The band got together after an ad in a Los Angeles newspaper by the drummer Lars Ulrich. The core of the band is drummer Lars Ulrich, vocalist and backing guitarist James Hetfield, and solo guitarist Kirk Hammett.
